nishi is a new york city based jewelry design company founded by designer joanna bengoa. the name nishi comes from her maternal family to honor her japanese roots. 

joanna spent her childhood alternating between the high-paced living of urban tokyo, where she was born, and the organic simplicity of her father's basque town on the coast of spain. the contrast of cultural influences is displayed in the design and craftsmanship of her pieces. 

in 2008 she obtained a gemology degree from gia to further extend her knowledge in precious stones and diamonds, enhance her perception of gemstones and fuel her creative process.

shaped by her travels and surroundings, joanna is inspired by jewelry that crosses style boundaries and hold sentimental value over time. with that in mind, she strives to create pieces that connect with people and at the same time bring a little happiness and beauty into people's lives.
